Architecturally Rich Dining Room

When Barbara Elliott and Jennifer Ward-Woods first encountered this dining room, it felt long, narrow, and lacking presence. Rather than working against the proportions, they chose to embrace them—transforming the space into an intimate, architecturally rich experience.

Project Overview:

The room was fully enveloped in a saturated blue, with walls, ceiling, and trim drenched in one continuous hue. This bold, immersive approach softened the narrow footprint while creating depth and cohesion. Custom trim detailing was introduced across both the walls and ceiling, adding rhythm, dimension, and a refined architectural layer that elevates the monochromatic palette.

To bring warmth and balance, the existing flooring was replaced with wide-plank oak and carried throughout the adjoining spaces, creating a seamless flow. A substantial stone-top dining table anchors the room, while plush velvet chairs soften the linear layout and invite comfort. Overhead, sculptural glass-and-brass chandeliers add glow and draw the eye upward, highlighting the ceiling detail.

Layered artwork, tailored window treatments, and rich textures complete the design. The result is a confident, immersive dining space—where thoughtful design transforms a challenging layout into something deeply inviting and undeniably striking.
