Decorating Den Interiors Announces Designer of the Year and Other Design Awards

This is the third time The Sisters have been selected as Designers of the Year. “It’s still as exciting as it was the first time,” they both exclaimed. In the journalists’ judging, they also were awarded first place in bathrooms along with second and third in children’s rooms. Additionally, their bedroom and bathroom entries won three other awards.

The bathroom renovation, which was 1st Runner Up to Designer of the Year, epitomizes luxury, blending elegance and modernity. Heated floors add comfort, while an arched area with tubular tilework highlights a sleek glass bathtub. Floating vanities with infinity sinks, LED mirrors, and a spa-like shower with state-of-the-art fixtures create a serene, tech-infused retreat for ultimate relaxation.

Designer of the Year 2025

Decorating Den Interiors presented its annual Designer of the Year award and other design awards last week, and The Sisters and Company received five awards for their beautiful work.

Barbara Elliott and Jennifer Ward-Woods took home five awards, including Designer of the Year for a richly layered primary bedroom design and First Runner-Up for the accompanying bathroom.

This is the third time The Sisters and Company has won the Designers of the Year award. “It’s still as exciting as it was the first time,” Barbara said. The Georgia team also won the People’s Choice Award and Donayre Award, making them both a professional and public favorite.

Barbara and Jennifer, owners of The Sisters and Company design firm based in   Stone Mountain and serving the greater Atlanta area, were named Designers of the Year, judged best in category and the overall best of 173 entries in 12 categories. The judging was done by interior design journalists across the U.S. and Canada, including Designers Today.

When Hope Christine Hall addresses the two owners of the Stone Mountain, Ga. design firm The Sisters and Company, she might call one Mom and the other Aunt. Mom is Barbara Elliott. Aunt Jennifer is Barbara’s sister, Jennifer Ward-Woods. Hope started as her mom’s executive assistant some 20 years ago in the early years of the business.

Today, known as The Sisters and Company, the design firm boasts a team of eight. Known for their colorful, glamorous interiors, they have earned the company’s highest design award, Designer of the Year, three times including 2025.

Hope’s responsibility expanded to serving as media manager extraordinaire, an important cog in the sisters’ wheel of success. She has been a leader in showing other Decorating Den Interiors franchises how to have a notable online marketing presence. Most recently, Hope has advanced to operational manager. “Her skills and time with us allows her to have knowledge of all aspects of our business,” Barbara said.

But it is the camaraderie that she values most and is the foundation of the team’s success. “It is my family,” says Hope. “But growing our family with other designers and people who work in the office has been truly amazing.”

Mother Barbara adds more emphasis. “This type of family-focused and loving atmosphere enables everyone to do what they do best: make their clients homes a breathtaking space they can enjoy for years to come. Jennifer and I grew up in a tight-knit family, and we try to foster that in our studio.”

The result is family-oriented business that earned the moniker “Trailblazers,” from the national publication Furniture Lighting & Décor. Indeed, they are.

In their design business, Elliott and Ward-Woods aren’t afraid to take risks or take on the bigger projects either. Their design portfolio includes everything from room resets to full renovations. While renos weren’t as common in the beginning, requests grew for those jobs. “We do everything,” adds Ward-Woods. “You’re only limited by what your ability is.”

What gives Elliott and Ward-Woods the “extra” that many of their clients have been looking for? For Ward-Woods, it’s what potential clients see in their portfolio. “They may not know what they want, but they know it when they see it, and that helps us get a sense,” she continues, adding that potential clients are often drawn by their use of color. “We teach our clients that you don’t have to be afraid of color. There’s a way to use it.” Ward-Woods also credits her and her sister’s knack for making comfort a priority while designing their beautiful spaces.

The Sisters and Company impressed at the Exceeding the Vision: 2023 Design Conference in New Orleans. Winning multiple honors in the Dream Room competition and finishing as 2nd Runners Up to Designer of the Year. Their success at the event hosted by the Decorating Den franchise showcased their exceptional design skills. Dream Room is judged by editors from shelter magazines such as Veranda, Elle Decor and House Beautiful.

Visit to Caracole

Barbara and Jennifer from The Sisters and Company recently visited their favorite furniture supplier Caracole at AmericasMart Atlanta.  AmericasMart is a wholesale trade center located in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The exhibition center is one of the largest permanent wholesale trade centers in the world. The center consists of three buildings totaling seven million square feet.

The Sisters and Company were featured in the April edition of trade magazine Designers Today along with other prominent American designers.

“Our client purchased a new home but hated the closed off kitchen and wanted to open up the space to the family room,” said Barbara Elliott of The Sisters and Company in Stone Mountain, Ga.  “She requested a color scheme of black and white and we added punches of pink for a pop. The bookcases and the fireplace in the family room were also updated for a more modern feel.”

Furnishings include an Ambella sectional, Bernhardt chairs and table, Caracole kitchen chairs and art by Nikki Chu.

A magic kitchen renovation was featured in the magazine where the space was updated without changing the original layout. The client wanted to keep some of the original design features but was open to changes to make the newly designed kitchen feel more modern and updated.

Interior designers Barbara Elliott and Jennifer Ward-Woods had their award-winning work featured in the June edition of Elle Décor in the article 7 ways to make your bedroom a no-stress zone right this minute which holds the key to a place that dreams are made of.

Barbara and Jennifer’s primary bedroom suite for comedian Kountry Wayne was selected by Elle Décor because of it’s comfortable seating area. “A sitting area makes the room feel like an oasis by giving the homeowner a place to relax without actually being in the bed,” says designer Barbara Elliott.

DESIGNCON 2022

The Sisters and Company recently attended DESIGNCON 2022 in Myrtle Beach. The team received high honors for many of this year’s Dream Room design competition entries and in the overall competition were 1st Runners Up to Designer of the Year.

Particularly exciting were the two wins for interior designer Chunja Sinclair’s first entries into the annual competition judged by national magazine editors from Elle Decor, Verandah, Traditional Home and Arabella. See Chunja’s award-winning children’s rooms:

Designer of the Year Awards

At this year’s DESIGNCON 2022, The Sisters and Company won a total of eleven design awards in a variety of room categories.

Their overall achievement was to receive 1st Runner Up to Designer of the Year which was won this year by Monique Holland of Washington, DC.

Barbara Elliott and Jennifer Ward-Woods have been the recipients of Designer of the Year in both 2007 and 2016.
